Open any leading business newspaper in India and you will find at least 2 full pages devoted to various aspects of Artificial Intelligence. Not surprisingly, articles regarding AI in construction Industry are rare. It is broadly agreed that amongst various industry sectors, Construction comes low down in deployment/maturity of AI, lower even than Government departments.
Possible reasons for this situation are many, such as an industry dominated by large number of small players, lack of standardization, lack of availability of data for AI models to learn from, non-repeatable project work, thin margins, dependence of manual & migrant labour and procurement models not promoting innovation.
Sadly, these are almost same reasons attributed to the view that construction lags behind other industries in maturity of Quality management and Occupation Safety & Health Management systems.
Can AI itself grow powerful enough to break this mould?
