The AI juggernaut is rolling on, and at a breakneck speed. Before we could pronounce ‘Intelligence’, AI invaded our professional and personal lives. We are now truly living in the age of information overload. As if search engines were not enough, we now have likes of Chat GPT which give us not only information, but expert opinion and advice also.

However, a recent survey conducted by an AI service provider found that in India much of the use of AI tools is limited to correcting / writing notes & memos or some non-professional work. How many of you, the readers of this note know, whether this note has been written by Chat GPT or I?

While I haven’t used one bit of Chat GPT in drafting this note, I have used Chat GPT for finding quick answers to many technical questions that have kept me thinking. The response has been mixed. Sometimes I received insightful analysis, but often I also saw very general and vague reports and, in some cases, outright incorrect assertions. If the questions that I asked were not from my area of expertise, I could have been easily misled! That makes me to assert that the powerful AI tools are useful if and only if the user has some level of knowledge and understanding about the issue at hand. Otherwise, it could well be the case of sword in the hand of a monkey as a famous Hindi saying goes!

So keep chatting with GPT, but be aware of the pitfalls!
