Current scenario of Safety Professionals in Indian Construction Industry:

The above explanations indicate a significant and growing need for safety professionals’ roles within the Indian Construction Industry. The precise figures for the number of safety professionals currently employed in the Indian construction industry are not readily available. However, perennially vacant safety positions with construction industry, undue delay and difficulty in acquisition of replacements, frequent job change by safety professionals on account of harsh job conditions and/or poor payouts, over working and multitasking by safety staffs suggests a potential shortage of dedicated competent safety personnel in India. In fact, supply of the competent safety professionals is limited, and every employer is scratching from the same vessel. Such a situation further motivates safety professionals for frequent job changes. As a result, continuity of safety initiatives at project disrupted. On other side, safety professionals fail to acquire holistic experience of safety management in the entire life cycle of the project.

Furthermore, majority of the existing lots of safety professionals lacks requisite competency for the job which affects their productivity and effectiveness. In turn, this creates a bottleneck in their progression and competitive remuneration in comparison with other disciplines in construction domain.
