Structural audit work is broadly divided in following 3 phases:
Phase 1 - Visual inspection
Auditor shall conduct a site walk-through to examine the condition of the structure and any visible defects. This stage involves examining whatever parts are visible; and inspecting defects “within touching distance”. Auditor shall provide subjective assessment of the state of the construction and point out any gaps which may adversely affect the stability and life of the structure. At the end of this phase Auditor will compile all structural distress in the structure and assess if there is any need to carry out NDT on any element of the structural.a
Phase 2 - NDT.
As per observations of visual inspection, specific Non-Destructive tests are then carried out. Auditor shall analyse the NDT results and if required, carry out calculations to assess the impact of the NDT findings. All testing and inspection will be subject to visibility and accessibility of the structural elements.
Phase 3 - Assessment and reporting
Based on the visual inspection and NDT, the Auditor will prepare structural audit report which will cover overall assessment of the health of the structure and suggestions for repairs. Based on audit findings structural stability certificate may be issued only for those structures which are deemed fit for this qualification.
