Meeting Clients Expectations

Our First Choice.

FROM THE DIRECTOR'S DESK

With opening of many stores of Mr. DIY and Ikea in different parts of the country, there is a boost in the ‘Do It Yourself’ concept in India. It is not restricted to activities related to craft, painting or gardening, but extends to more serious stuff like furniture and construction. It is driven by (at least in India) increasing demand of urban housing and rising disposable income. DIY is very popular with startups having low cash to burn and it aims to differentiate from mass production.

The motive behind the DIY movement appears to be a sense of accomplishment, control and enjoyment felt by the doer. Uniqueness and innovation are at the core of DIY movement.

In the context of the Indian mindset, DIY movement may have an unintended but positive outcome and that’s to do with acceptance of manual work! Everyone who indulges in DIY, will sooner than later learn to respect the labour and physical efforts that is part of every DIY project. Added to that will be the unfortunate but inevitable accidents. These mostly involve fall from height, poising and fire, often caused by enthusiasm and excitement to rush into the activity without reading instructions . All these should help the doer appreciate & understand the position and plight of the labour and thereby develop a mindset of respecting them.

And when there are significant doers of DIY from amongst the construction professionals in India, Occupational Health and safety will spontaneously receive the importance that it deserves. As people who take decisions about OHS issues and provide budget/resources for safety empathize with the workmen, Safety practices will improve.

May that day arrive soon!
